Toronto city councillor Michelle Bernadetti is severely misguided if she thinks she’s representing her constituents in opposing the mandatory five-cent packing bag fee. It’s probably the most recycled item in city homes today.
Plastic bags are used from everything to packing daily lunches to stooping and scooping dog poop. The only thing the fee has accomplished is lining the pockets of large corporate retailers and causing the usage of paper bags to skyrocket. The retailers don’t care about the 860,000 ash trees in the city; all they want is to line their pockets. It’s also an embarrassment when tourists shop in our city when we have to ask them for a nickel in exchange for their business.
It seems a five-cent packing bag matters, which raises a question will you oppose a five-cent packing bag fee?
