What is you opinion about President Obama supporting gay marriage?

I'm waiting to see if the outcome of his 'personal opinion' that it's the right thing to do has any effect on changing federal recognition of SSM.

 With election time approaching I'm dubious!

It would still be up to the States.

It is only up to the states IF there is no federal support that allows same sex marriage; federal law says that if one state recognizes a marriage, then all states must recognize that marriage which is why its such a big deal.

But he said he's confident that more Americans will grow comfortable with gays and lesbians getting married, citing his own daughters' comfort with the concept".

I guess he thinks its a really important issue on most americans minds ?

It's important to social conservatives. They vote on social issues and nothing else. Even though their main issue is pro-lfe this just adds fuel to the fire.

I believe he saw the polls showing his ratings go down.  He needed more votes so he reached out to the gay population by showing support for gay marriages.
