Old Stock Certificate

A friend has a stock certificate for a company incorporated in 1929 that belonged to her father.  How can she determine if it's worth anything now?

She can check the listings on the NYSE or NASDAQ if the company retained its original name. She can also contact a brokerage house to look it up in their files.
