What is an offer letter?

I have came across a companies website who is looking for an offer letter from the person seeking employment with this organization. This is the first time I have seen this and would like to know if this means a cover letter or is something different. Also, what is to be put into a offer letter. Thank you for the answer.

Dave - An offer letter from a prospective employer means he/she is asking you to submit your requirements for taking the position; to include,

  • Salary requirements
  • Vacation Time
  • 401K  matching contributions by employer
  • Health Insurance premiums/co-pay from employer/level of coverage
  • Issue of extensive overtime for salaried position - compensatory matching time off?
  • Mileage for use of of personal car for business
  • Stated schedule of review for pay raise in cotract
  • And anything else you feel is important in your particular industry
