Is nuclear power safe?

Nuclear power plants have two main advantages  . (1) Once built, a nuclear plant can be less expensive (2) Uranium, unlike fossil fuels, releases no chemical or solid pollutants into the air during use.

However, nuclear power plants have three major disadvantages.  (1) Nuclear plants cost more to build than fossil-fuel plants. (2) Nuclear plants must meet stricter government regulations than do fossil-fuel plants. The regulations are meant to prevent hazardous amounts of radioactive material from being released. (3) Used nuclear fuel produces radiation long after it has been removed from the reactor. Some of the solid fission fragments are unstable and release radiation as they decay into other elements. As a result, safe disposal of nuclear waste presents a challenge. From World Book Online Encyclopedia

Have to say, nuclear power is safe but nuclear power plant can have problems. Like what was happening last year in Japan. 

NO,  all you need is an earthquake, or a stuck valve, or bad gauge  to have a bad day for the rest of eternity.  Then there is the spent fuel, what do you do with it?  So far it's been put underground, in the Ocean.  It has no safe place on this planet.  Millions are spent on these plants and then like in Florida  something goes wrong and have to be shut down.  But you can't just shut them down, then dismantle them and start over can you?  No, Millions more are spent to maintain the next potential Nuclear accident.
