I have recently noticed that I have spider veins across my upper back. I have never heard of this before and wonder what in the world this means and why it has happened. I have not changed my excersize program and habits. I have gained about 15 lbs over the past year.
The primary cause of spider veins are alcohol, medication and elevated estrogen levels. This condition is harmless to your health. Age and extra weight are contributing factors. Any activity that’s adds strain to the circulatory system or the constriction of blood flow can have a negative effect resulting in spider veins. Standing or sitting, lifting heavy weights, long distance running, lack of exercise, and obesity are other causes. Some tips to prevent spider veins: eat more ginger, garlic and onions. These foods help break down the Fibrin surrounding the Varicose veins. Exercise regularly and wear loose clothing (which will help increase circulation and help the blood flow properly throughout your body). Other treatments include Sclerotherapy, where an injection is used to destroy the veins. Laser Surgery is another (more expensive) option.
While I am not sure exactly what has caused you to get spider veins on your back, I do know that you can read more about them at American Academy of Dermatology. I hope this helps.
