Melatonin is made naturally by the body. As we age our body makes less and less of it so we have to get it from a pill. Increase your dosage by another mg and if that's not enough increase it by another making it 5mgs a night. My Dr prescribed Rozerem which is not habit forming because it's nothing more than melatonin. Mine is 8mgs and I sleep all night. I tried the OTC melatonin but it left me feeling hung over the next morning. Rozerem doesn't do that so it must have something else in it but I sleep all night and wake refreshed. Maybe when your Dr returns you can ask him about Rozerem. I've been on many prescription sleeping pills before but these work great. In the meantime try increasing your dosage by one mg until you start getting a full night's sleep or your Dr returns, whatever comes first. My husband takes a sleeping pill (prescription) and a 3mg melatonin both at bedtime.
