What is the name of the nerve in the eye that is sensitive to some internet graphics? I can't think of it but there are warning on some things that some people with seizure disorder shouldn't watch ...
If there are dangers from working with computers then I must have them since I have been working on computers since 1965 before computer screens or monitors and long before the Internet. But if there are people who get a kick out of creating some kinds of destructive computer virus' then I'm sure they would also be inclined to create optical nerve graphics to damage over sensitive eyes.
Thanks RA - I think it effects only people with epilepsy but, on further research, the Association for Epilepsy said no.
They just initially sold a bunch of monitor covers for no reason.
My mother had epilepsy but did not hane that problem. My wife has a problem with some checker board designs in restaurants and makes me sit on the side of the table where I look at them and she does not. But then while watching a movie on TV she is always pointing out to me how the colors of actors clothing match the colors of the walls in the movie or the shoes do not match the style of dress they are wearing while I am just following the movie story line and what people are saying. I guess we see what we wnat to see.
I'm sorry about your mom, RA.
In some people, epilepsy can be treated w/ medication and in others, the only treatment is neuro-surgical.
Some people just benefited from the computer covers because their work was tiring to their eyes but, for a while they had warnings for people w/ seizures. I think maybe it was more of a legal protection before they actually had gotten the science from the Epilepsy Foundation.
I think the fashion-thing you mention is a gender difference. Women do notice fashion more than men more often than not however, a man can listen to a play intensely and still refuse to listen to advice to get directions. We can't figure 'you men' out sometimes!!! (Of course, this is the stereotype - I know some people where it's the exact opposite - ie - did you hear about the couple where the woman is trying to reach 1000 lbs because her husband likes obese women? That is not a woman concerned with looking good in fashion or a man who cares about his wife's health, imho)
Thanks for your post.

My mother had six seizures the last day of her life while I had to sit with her on Thanksgiving Day. She just could respond to the medications they gave her and her body was weak. She had epilepsy for several years before the doctors realized it. She was 78 years old when she died and I think she had the seizures off and on for about ten years. She called them black outs and the doctors thought it was her blood pressure dropping at times. At least that was what I was told by my father.
That is scary, RA!!!
The word I was trying to get is 'photosensitive epilepsy'. (It seems it effects children more than adults, according to wiki...)

while the information is different here:

This story is 2 years old and the Epilepsy Foundation dismissed it was caused by computers.
Not everyone who has epilepsy is considered for the surgery. It can be worse than epilepsy if the person is not strong enough for it. It is neurological, otherwise, I don't know very much about it. I just recall when computers were blamed for it.
Your mom was blessed to have you there with her. I heard, even though people with epilepsy don't recall much, if anything about a seizure, they need someone with them to avoid associated injuries.
I'm so sorry, though, to know, you had to go through that, especially on Thanksgiving. Are u ok?
btw, thanks for your msg....that cleared that up!
Best,
