There are the illegal P2P services but Personally I don't think it's worth the pain and the viruses.

There are great subscription services. For a price of one CD a month (and even less for annual deals) you will get to download as much music and video clips as you want.

There are a several good services: like http://www.rhapsody.com/home.html

or http://free.napster.com/ check them out

Hey, there are a TON of places to get free video and music....but it depends on what you're looking for!

For FREE amazing streaming music, check out:

 - Last.fm, Rhapsody, PANDORA (amazing service! My personal fave!), Dizzler, PureVolume, MOG, PerfSpot.com

For free streaming video:

 - PerfSpot.com, Truveo, Hulu, Blinkx, Pixsy....TONS of others

As for downloading music and videos...honestly, your best (and safest) bet is to just download a torrent client (such as Azureus, BitTorrent, etc) and search for torrents of music and videos you want...you can search for torrents in Google, but there are a TON of torrent search engines out there.  I'm not condoning pirating media, but if you're gonna do it, you might as well skip the sketchy P2P clients (they're ALL gonna get shut down soon, and their records could be subpeona'd, and YOUR IP address will be on the Feds' list!) and cover your back.

I was wondering about the classical music, in general. Since certain pieces are so old, does anyone hold rights to them? Can you publish a CD of classical music without acquiring a permission for it?
