Combination of the names of American blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council
I assume that you know Pink Floyd was a rock band in the '60s and '70s.
Actually there is another version of the story which says that the band took its name from two cats that a friend owned. The cats were named after Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

Pink Floyd was strongly influenced by blues and took their name from American blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. They were a progressive rock band and were probably best known for their elaborate concerts and concept albums, like Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall. They are still revered as one of the best rock bands that ever lived, having contributed to the scene since the 60's to present day.
another trivia item, the band was originally named as "Sigma 6" until the lead vocalist left the band and replaced by Syd Barret in 1964.
from a musical point of view a group that have become somewhat of a legend in this day and age. They got known with their album Another Brick in the wall although they were already on their way to the top...
