Personally, I love movies! So, yes, I think a movie can be a great first date. Especially if you both like movies! I would recommend though, that you do something either before of after the movie such as go somewhere for coffee or a burger or dessert so that you do have some personal one-on-one time together. It will make her feel special and it will let her know that it is more about her than just someone to go to the movie with.

I think this was a good answer. I would also hope that the movie would interest both of you, so that it could lead to some good conversation.  This would help you to get some insight into each other.
