Why do modern day Christian's always seem to think anyone who is "psychic" must be evil?

I have had the ability to see the souls of the dearly departed since I was only 3 years old, and have been a Christian my entire life, both at the same time.  I have also been studying theology for over 24 years as well as trying to find the highest spiritual truth one can find on this Earth that long as well, and have been so turned off by most modern day Christians because they seem to believe that the gift I believe God gave me to help ease people's fear and pain over death is from Satan.

I can't seem to understand why the prophets of old, who were capable of also seeing into the realm of spirit in my opinion, are not judged harshly for their ability by modern day Christians, but any one in modern day society who talks about having the ability to see into the realm of spirit HAS to be evil? It makes no sense to me at all.  Anyone care to explain why I am judged to be such an evil person just because I can see into the realm of the dearly departed?

Remember that I have read the entire bible myself and have come up with what I believe is the truth that it tells us on my own, rather than only listening to anyone else's opinion and going with what they believe before you answer my question please.  I am hoping that you will also remember that you can "tell a tree by the fruit it bears", and that Jesus himself told all of us to "judge not lest we be judged" as well.

Trust me, there are many priests and ministers that are believers, and often help psychics investigate and clear houses. But these abilities tend to scare people who don't understand them or understand that you're born with the ability and that many people find the ability a curse rather than a blessing.

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then that makes me a burning truck filled with TNT hurtling through a rocket fuel depot.

Deb,  I don't think anyone claiming to having psychic abilities is evil.  I just don't believe in psychics.

Debbie:  The main concern that comes to my mind as I read your request is that we cannot violate the principles of the Word of God and still get wisdom and direction for our lives.  The challenge that I would have if I were thinking, believing and acting on what you feel,  is that I would not be able to know if I was following the Holy Spirit of God or if I was being deceived by Satan and all his angelic demons.

If you have read the Bible and failed to recognize the Yahweh of the Old Testament is the Yeshua of Bethlehem and the one and only Savior to lead us back into the presence and forgiveness of God The Father, then you are still following whatever spirit reveals himself to you.

Without receiving The Holy Spirit of Christ who clearly claimed to be "God in the Flesh," then we cannot understand the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to us.  But those of us who have received Christ and been "born-again," the Word is not foolish to us, but is the Power of God to not only be Saved, but it is the only way to have God's wisdom and to be discerning of the spirits.

We must all recognize God really loves us and wants to have a personal, intimate relationship with each individual.  We cannot understand His love, justice, Grace and Mercy until we admit to Him that without our total faith and trust in the promise and atoning death of Christ alone, then we cannot receive Christ or His Holy Spirit into our bodies and thus possess the total Righteousness of Christ.  Once we totally surrender our minds and wills to Christ and admit that if He and His promise doesn't save us, then we can never be saved, have our sins forgiven and live with Him Eternally here on earth or in heaven after we die.  If we don't have discernment of His Holy Spirit, then Satan will lead us off with one degree of error and we will miss God forever.  Once we receive Christ, then God promises to seal us with the Holy Spirit of Promise, until the day of Redemption, The Day He comes back for us or if we die before He comes.

I am asking the Lord to lead you to Himself, or back to Himself so you can make sure that you are a true Christian believer and will heed His Word and help so many others that think the Bible is unreliable or that Jesus is not "The Way, The Truth, and the Life.  If you are a true believer in Christ, then you should be in agreement with the principles that I have quickly tried to summarize.  With a total trust in Christ and a total surrender every day, moment by moment to His Sovereign Spirit, then Christ's Holy Spirit promises to overpower Satan and his demons and protect you from harm or deceit of their deceitful schemes and ultimate eternal death, separated from God forever.  Jesus wants to lead us and others to Himself, who is the true source of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

God Bless You,

JB

The bible says about  the condition of the dead
Eccl. 9:5: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.”
Ps. 146:4: “His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts [“thoughts,” KJ, 145:4 in Dy; “all his thinking,” NE; “plans,” RS, NAB] do perish.”
John 11:11-14: “‘Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.’ . . . Jesus said to them outspokenly: ‘Lazarus has died.’” (Also Psalm 13:3)With whom are those who endeavor to speak with the dead actually communicating?
The truth about the condition of the dead is clearly stated in the Bible. But who tried to deceive the first human pair about death? Satan contradicted God’s warning that disobedience would bring death. (Gen. 3:4; Rev. 12:9) In time, of course, it became obvious that humans did die as God said they would. Reasonably, then, who was responsible for inventing the idea that humans really do not die but that some spirit part of man survives the death of the body? Such a deception fits Satan the Devil, whom Jesus described as “the father of the lie.” (John 8:44; see also 2 Thessalonians 2:9, 10.) Belief that the dead are really alive in another realm and that we can communicate with them has not benefited mankind. On the contrary, Revelation 18:23 says that, by means of the spiritistic practices of Babylon the Great, “all the nations were misled.” The spiritistic practice of ‘talking with the dead’ is actually a fraudulent deception that can put people in contact with the demons (angels that became selfish rebels against God) and often leads to a person’s hearing unwanted voices and being harassed by those wicked spirits.

Hi Deb, First let me say that though Independent Baptist by denomination (or religion some would say) I am not a man of religion, though I am an ordained minister.  I am a man with a relationship with God, not a religion.  And in that definition lies your problem.  Many people shun or condemn what they do not understand.  I have seen many "Christians" condemn anything outside what they have been taught by the Church they happen to attend.  Whatever their Church Covenant or the Pastor defines as wrong they accept, though many of them have never once read the Word of God through once in their whole life.  They tend to "pick up" a scripture here and there in Church or Sunday School and bend it to condemn anything they don't understand.  I hope I am making myself clear on this topic.  You see your problem is not with Christianity, but with those who claim to be Christians, but they try to sit in judgement on those or the things they come across that they don't understand, so they say it is wrong.  Some 38 years ago, my best friend was killed in a car wreck.  At the same time he was killed, I saw him walk across our front porch toward the front door and got up to go let him in.  The phone rang as I walked by it and it was his wife telling me he was dead!  Did that make me evil?  I don't think so, even though I was not sure why it happened?  Then, one night I was sitting in the bath tub taking a bath and a weird feeling came over me that someone close was dying or dead.  I got my wife to call around to my relatives as I got out of the tub.  Sure enough, my grandfather had died right about the time I had that feeling.  Was that evil?  I don't think so.  I think our love for one another was so strong that it made me sensitive to his passing.  But had I shared any of these events with anyone, they may have judge me a witch or warlock or something!  To my knowledge, there is no scripture in the Bible, when taken in the context that it is written in, that condemns anyone who can see those who have passed away.  And to put it plainly, the scriptures teach us not to judge others, but to avoid those living in sin.  If something is clearly wrong, then we should avoid that activity.  Does that require us judging someone or some thing?  No, it requires us recognizing what is against God and avoiding it.  BUT if I judge someone as evil or a sinner, and condemn them for what they are doing, then that too is wrong.  Jesus taught us to hate the sin, but love the sinner. And by that, I am not saying you are wrong or a sinner.  I do not understand what you are doing, anymore than I understood it when it happened to me all those years ago.  But, because I do not understand it, I will not judge you for the talent you seem to have.  If anything, I will pray and ask God to give me understanding.  Hopefully, you will use your talent to help others that are receptive to what your can do.  In the meantime, keep loving Jesus.  Have a relationship with God, and leave religion to those who prefer practicing it rather than understanding in their hearts what Jesus tried to teach us all.  Have a nice day and email me anytime.

Let me awaken with a desire to help others in my heart and a love for all God's creations.

Too many Christians define anything which isn't directly and purely Christian as satanic. Good to see there are a few with some common sense and balance.
