Discuss Avaloyuru's answer to: Mineral Rights and Mortgage

Can i get a mortgage on land I do not own the mineral rights to. I already own the land i want to build a house on it and then i'll need a mortgage. will the mineral right make it hard to get a ...

You can build whatever you want on land that you own.  The only problem is if the owner of the mineral rights, such as natural gas and oil decide to drill for it, they can force you off the land.  It can be a lengthy and costly process to hold them off, I know from experience.  They always have more money and more time than a private person does.  At least in my case where it was natural gas and a company that was promoting the drill.  I would recommend to you that you find out the status of both, the minerals below ground as well as who owns them before you decide to do anything else.
