No this should not prevent enlistment, IF it was not a felony. Being a commissioned officer is another matter. For officers orsenior enlisted military members there is a "0" tolerance policy, and a violation results in an undesirable discharge or release from active duty. Small violations before enlistment are addressed on a case by case basis, and usually seen as youthful mistakes. A recruiter would be the best person to ask about current policy, as it changes from year to year.

I'm not an attorney.  Nonetheless, I'm a sworn officer of the Court System.  If it isn't a felony this individual should petition the court system for an Expungement and more than like it will be removed for this person permanent record.  But no one can be certain of the outcome due to the fact that results can vary from state to state.  So pay the small fee and submit your petition to the Circuit Court for an Expungement.  Good luck.
