The answer can depend on which part of SE Michigan you're talking about.  Ann Arbor averages twice the snow of Monroe; Harbor Beach averages twice the snow that Detroit gets.

6 of the 7 heaviest snowstorms recorded in Flint during the last 60 years occurred between 1951-1979, with the biggest (22.7 inches) being in January, 1979.  But, in 2000 and 2008, there were storms that were fairly close to some of the other years' totals.  The snowiest winter in Flint was 1974-75, but it barely beat out the winter of 2007-08. (82.8 inches)

I'm pretty sure that we remember the snows of our childhood being bigger because we were smaller and everything looked huge.
