Michele Bachmann supports allowing intelligent design to be taught in schools. What's your opinion?
ID is religion masquerading as science. Believe it if you want, but keep it out of public school science classes. It is no more science than a preacher wearing a white lab coat is a scientist. Science is based on empirical evidence from observation of nature, controlled testing of hypotheses, and peer review of conclusions. ID does none of that. ID's basic statement is that living things are so complicated and amazing that some kind of intelligence (a transparent code for a god) must have "designed" them. That is an Olympic jump to a conclusion. It is a fallacious argument called argument from ignorance. Basically "We don't understand it, therefore it must have been a god." That's how rain, fire, and the changing seasons were first explained. ID offers no empirical evidence for this entity, so it is not in the realm of science. If you want to teach about mysterious beings that cannot be observed, teach it in a religion class, not a science class.
