Metastatic Liver Cancer - there is hope!

This is not a question, but rather a comment on the "Cancer Stories" artice of 4 April 2008. I was diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer in mid January 2009. It was extremely painful and aggressive, and the biopsy showed "innumerable" metastises. I immediately started chemo (Carboplatin/Esposid) and natural remedies (Zeolite, Agrarigold, Selenium, Coenzyme Q10, Vitamins, Apricot Kernels, and organic food with very little meat and virtually no processed foods). Within days my GGT reading went down from 1500 to 1100 (usual range 0-30; this is like a "Canary" test when they used to test gas in mines by using canaries which are extremely sensitive to CO. GGT shows a liver under duress but is otherwise not terribly helpful). After 2 chemo sessions (had my third today) all my liver function tests are normal, as are most of the rest of my bloods. GGT is 42. PET/CT shows no cancer activity in liver, pancreas, lungs etc. So if caught quickly enough, provided you are prepared to make some big changes, there is hope! Mortrisus

A recent British study has shown that increase in alcohol consumption, obesity, and hepatitis C may contribute to a 3 fold increase in metastatic liver cancer.  Check out the oncology section at http://www.best4health.net for more information.  Prevention is better than cure.

For my part, whilst I am overweight, I have never had any form of liver disease previously (including Hep C) nor do I drink alcohol. Just lucky I guess!  But, here I am, 7 months later, and healthier (I think) than I have been in 20 years, and in remission.  Mortrisus

Similar to what I was thinking, my friend is not overweight, does not drink, no Hep C, but Met. ca of liver dx 3 days ago. I pray this is not as grim as all I see on web. He is too alive to die.
