Mercedes starting problem help ASAP

I have 92 500sel and I got into an accident recently and the damage is mostly on the left front bumper and the car has not been starting? It will be fine for a few days then I will be out somewhere and boom, it wont start. Sometimes if takes a few tries and it will start, other times it will be a couple days. My local mechanic thinks it doesn't recognize my key and the anti theft system wont let me start it. It won't even turn over, but my radio and everything else will start, just not the engine. Today it did it but when I turn the key the engine makes a click noise and everything shuts off for a second or two until I stop turning the key? Please help! I love my Benz
