i worry and stress alot but ive been waking up in the middle of the night for over 2 years now feeling like ive been holding my breath.  when i wake up in the morning i have a stomach ache sometimes and i assume its because of my breathing.  i went to the doctor many times and they say im fine.  i thought maybe it was my heart or breathing problems.  they claim its stress.  i have panic attacks sometimes but not in my sleep i wouldnt think.  im not having any dreams or anything.  has anyone had these exact symptoms?  people i explain my symptoms to dont understand what im talking about.  any advice would be great.  thanks.

Tonya,  Do you snore when you sleep?  You may have a form of sleep apnea.  That is when you stop breathing several times during the night, and you might snore or give out some type of snort to get yourself breathing again.  You may sleep all night and not realize any of this, but you will feel tired and dragged out during the day, as it is not a good sleep.  Tell your doctor to send you to the sleep clinic for a day to be tested for sleep apnea.  They can even send a tech to your home and do the sleep study there.   If you do indeed have sleep apnea, there are a few things that can be done to help.  I won't get into those until you know for sure if you have it.  So have the doctor arrange for the test.  Good luck.

I think ruling out sleep apnea is something to be addressed.  Secondly, being told you are feeling stress is a bit flippant.  Secondly if your doctor has determined you are suffering from severe stress why hasn't he treated you for it or referred you to a psychiatrist?

Everyone has stress, but is your stress beginning to manifest into an anxiety disorder or even major depression. Depression and anxiety often go hand and hand.  If your physician is not willing to discuss the sleep apnea issue with you and refer you for a sleep study (which is the only way to make a definitive diagnosis) I would seek a second opinion.  Considering your problem has not been correctly diagnosed in 2 years a second opinion would still be a good idea.

You might be suffering from sleep apnea. Check out the sleep clinics and see if you do have this.
