I NEED HELP WITH THE 4 QUESTIONS ON THE BOTTOM .........

Step 1: The Family Pool

http://tinypic.com/r/1h4jmh/6

Volume of Pool

V = lwh

V = 24 • 9 • 7

V = 1512 ft3

Amount of Pool Liner Area of Base + Area of Left Side + Area of Right Side + Area of Front Side + Area of Back Side

(24 • 9) + (9 • 7) + (9 • 7) + (24 • 7) + (24 • 7)

216 + 63 + 63 + 168 + 168

678 ft2 Volume of Water

V = lwh

V = 24 • 9 • 6.5

V = 1404 ft3

Step 2: The Dog’s Pool

http://tinypic.com/r/331g1oi/6

Volume of Pool

V = lwh

V = 6 • 2.25 • 1.75

V = 23.625 ft3

Amount of Pool Liner Area of Base + Area of Left Side + Area of Right Side + Area of Front Side + Area of Back Side

(6 • 2.25) + (2.25 • 1.75) + (2.25 • 1.75) + (6 • 1.75) + (6 • 2.25)

13.5 + 3.9375 + 3.9375 + 10.5 + 13.5

45.375 ft2

Volume of Water

V = lwh

V = 6 • 2.25 • 1.25

V = 16.875 ft3

Answer the following questions:

1. What relationship does the volume of the dogs' pool have with the volume of the original family pool? How does this compare to the relationship in the dimensions of the dogs' pool to the dimensions of the family pool?

2. What is the difference in volume when the pool is filled to the top versus filled to 6 inches below the top?

3. Was the amount of pool liner material representative of the lateral or surface area of a rectangular prism? Why or why not?

4. Imagine Mrs. Noether asked you to add steps to the family pool. How would adding steps affect the volume of the water? How would adding steps affect the amount of pool liner material needed? Explain why each change would take place.

It will take considerable amount of time to answer all your question.  I am not sure someone will do it.  BUT, if you post your questions one by one you'll sure get answers.

Love is the battery of life....

1. The dog's pool volume is 23.625 ft3, the family pool is 1512 ft3, exactly corresponding to the product of the dimensions.

2. The diffference in volume when filled to the top 1512 ft3 and filled to 6 inches of the top 1404 ft3 so the difference is 108 ft3.

3. The pool liner needs to include one base, so it is neither lateral area nor surface area.

4. steps in the pool would take up volume, reducing the volume of water.

Adding steps would reduce the area on the bottom of the pool but the same amount would cover the tops of the steps.  It would reduce the area on one side but the same amount would cover the risers of the steps.  There would be additional area of liner for the sides of the steps.

The answer is B .1396 from Poisson distribution formula. Guesstimating: although 8 may be the mean count over 2 minutes, it could be 7 or 9 with almost the same probability, and 6 or 10 with a little lower probability, and it could be 4, 5, 11, 12 so the chance of exactly 8 is likely between .1 and ...
