How to choose a martial arts school

I would just choose the school that is closest to home and most convenient. I would also check the teachers' credentials and ask if you can take one free class before committing. Good luck!

I picked mine by the price and then I went and watched a class and took a free class.

You may search at yellow pages or use google to find a good Mixed Martial Arts school. But always remember the best martial arts school is really the one that fits you the best.

Everything is online now a days, so simply google your martial arts schools around you and find one that fits you best. You can also try Yelp.com

I take a few things into consideration when picking a gym/school:

1. The atmosphere - It's important to feel comfortable where your training and not be intimidated or overwhelmed. The people at the gym have a lot to do with it, if their nice, open minded and friendly it makes it that much better of an atmosphere to train in... if they think their above you and cocky, then I'd rather not train with arrogant people

2. The Instructors - It's important to have quality instructors to learn from. I've had my share of good and bad instructors. You want a experienced martial artist in competition AND teaching - some instructors I've learned under have less experience than me!

3. The cost - The cheaper the better obviously, but don't sacrifice too much of the quality going for a dirt cheap gym when paying an extra few bucks can really make a difference in improving your game.

4. The Location - The closer the better, but same as the cost - don't sacrifice too much... if a gym is another 10 minutes away but has better instructors and cost cheaper, your better off going there.

5. The Cleanliness - no one likes training in a dirty, grimy gym... make sure the equipment is cleaned and so are the mats - you don't want to go home with ring worm or anything.
