put a mark on the body of the distributer across with the head of the rotor-metal end-....dont turn the engine after removing the distributer.https://sites.google.com/site/autobestanswer/

you can just mark it where the rotor points. the vehicle will still need to be timed afterwards.    alot of times when re-installing the distributor it wolnt go back in all the way because the oil pump drive rod which is a hexagon doesnt line up correctly. just get a long set of needle nose pliers and turn it a bit and distributor will drop in all the way
