As mentioned in prior posts, the maple tree is very durable, and is almost the cockroach of trees in terms of its adaptability.  It will be one of the last trees to go.

There ARE blights, and weird things have struck trees before. Tough to say. I would hope not...the black mold which I have seen does spread, but at this time there is more a chance of the Ash trees being taken out by a beetle than there is of the blight taking out the Maples...also, the Pine Weevil (another type of beetle) has been destroying the long needled pines around here...I doubt Maples will disappear anytime soon.
