There is a sensor in the oil pan that when the oil drops below that level it will shut off. Also it may idle on level ground but when you get on an incline or hill the oil level will shift which shuts the engine off. Hope this was helpful.

It sounds like it might be a problem with the governor. Check to make sure the linkage is all connected right, and the spring(s) are attached.
