It is not necessary to let a car warm-up in the morning before you drive it unless you want the heater and defroster to be putting out heat when you get into the car and start driving. Other than that reason you are just wasting gas and polluting the air. A car puts out the most tailpipe emissions when it is cold and idleing.

Hi, ------ In the past people used to warm their cars before driving (mainly to make sure the radiator is in operation and the oil is properly circulation)..... Today both system don't need it any more and one can drive straight after switching on. -------- Best regards,

Love is the battery of life....

We have an older Honda (1998) which clatters a bit on cold starts.  As the engine heats up and the oil circulates the noise abates - due to the lubrication and the parts expanding.  This takes five minutes or less.  We do this to avoid excess wear due to friction and impact of the parts.

We have a less old (2003) Siverado pick-up which we just start and go in.

I've owned cars as old as 1965 models.  I worked in a gas station as a teenager and took auto shop in High School.  I never heard of routinely warming a car for twenty minutes before driving.  As much as ten minutes in extreme cold - maybe.  This advice must be for cars on six volt systems and generators or older (first half of the twentieth century).

after the winter we just had here on LI i thank god for my remote starter!!

No, most of the I'm running late so I just do have time to clean my windshield if ice, frost or snow is on it.

Yes I still warm up my vehicles and suggest that to my other family members. The oil [I was taughtalways told] does clings to the inside of the oil pan, moving parts inside the block etc... , But I still think it helps with the life of the engine and just gets all the fluid where they need to be. yes I still warm up my car as well..I have a 1999 Honda Accord aand am not sure if it is necessary being that it was built before the 20th century ...does anyone know if it is? I still warm it up every mornin for about 5 mins ..max i waited once was 10 mins but not 20 mins that's def a waste of gas right there ...at least imo
