I don't think there is a weight limit, just a size limit. Just remember, you have to be able to lift it to put it in the overhead compartment.i

It varies from one company to another and it also matters if it is a domestic flight or an international ( & long distance) flight.  Normally it is 22 k"g (a bit short of 50 lbs).  That does not include your personal bag (which is also limiitted in weight).  The carry on luggage is limitted to 8 K"g (some 18 lbs) in most companies.  Please note that the suitcase (both for carry on and the luggage you ship) must also be in "normal" size / dimensions (defined in details by each company).

Carry-on is the type of luggage that passengers are allowed to carry along in the passenger compartment instead of moving to the cargo compartment. You have to put your Carry-on luggage in over-head bin so make sure your bag is of proper size and weight. I use Eagle Creek Ease Flight Bag, it comes with dimensions of 46 x 25 x 28 cm which fits to all flight carrier's over-head bin perfectly. Unfortunately, due to the very strict restrictions the FAA has imposed, you cannot (unless it's a prescription medication and you have a doctor's note, but even then, I doubt it will work). Maybe if you fly with someone else, they can take 3 ozs. in their luggage?
