Usually a child won't lose a tooth until the permanent tooth is nearly ready to replace it.  I personally (according to my mom) lost my first tooth at 3 and had a replacement in a matter of days.

My nephew just lost a tooth and he is 6 so 5 is early but not ridiculously early.  Would say just like some babies get a tooth at 6 months and others (like mine!) not till 15 months!!  All depends.

How do I find the time?

at age 5 your teeth are very strong except when eating excessive amounts of swets but at that age its rare and besides teeth are suposedto grow at a normal rate so let the child be when more teeth are lost then put some money under the pillw you will be amazed at the smiles you will get just remember that you have been there too and if you noyie any thing different than from when you were 5 then you should take to the doctor you only need to go to the dentist once a year so relax its hardly ever that you have any real problems

Well my daughter didn't lose her teeth that early.  I was glad.  I wanted her to get her adult teeth when she was better prepared to take care of them.  I think it took a couple of weeks for them to come in all the way.
