Discuss PGroot's answer to: How to look at a solar eclipse?

The safe way to see the eclipse is to put a pinhole in a cardboard and let the image fall on another cardboard.  Sunglasses are not nearly enough protection; to look at the sun directly you would need the darkest welder's glass, #14.  You need something that blocks 99.99% of the light.  You might be able to find cheap eclipse glasses that are dark enough.  Using a telescope is possible if you have a filter that blocks most of the light at the front of the telescope.  An eyepiece filter can overheat quickly with the sun's light.
