I never used aol before, so I downloaded aol desktop 9.7 yesterday after creating a free aol email account, but i am unable to log in using my aol email account username. It tells me that it's an invalid screen name. I am POSITIVE that I am typing it correctly, and I have no problem logging in at aol.com. I am completely unfamiliar with aol, so I am not understanding what the problem is. Also, I don't know if this is significant in any way, but when I log in using aol.com, it asks for my username/email. But I noticed that aol desktop asks for my screen name. Now I always thought username and screen name meant the same thing, but I found it interesting that aol would refer to it both ways. But that may mean nothing. I just REALLY need to access aol desktop because I joined a group that is known to send large amounts of email, and I need to be able to access it quickly. The ONLY other information that may factor into this problem is that I recently bought this laptop from my brother, and aol desktop 9.7 had previously been used on this pc. It had been uninstalled and then re-installed by me, but I do know that he didn't have any trouble logging into aol desktop. Is there anyone that can explain to me what the problem is? I can't just create a new account with aol desktop because the group I requested to join added me, and the email address they have for me is obviously the account in question. I'm sure there may be a way to ask the group leader(s) to add a different address for me, but I JUST joined and would rather not go thru the trouble unless absolutely necessary. PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks :)
Hi, Shaleea: I apologize for the inconvenience. You are correct, Username and screen Name are the same. As to why you aren't able to log into the software, I'm not sure, especially since you can log in from aol.com. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software? That may fix the problem. Please let me know.
Thank you for your patience.
I am having the same issue. I tried creating a new account through AOL Desktop and I noticed that it would not allow me to enter a "DOT" in the username, whereas the online account creation process had not such issues. Any thoughts?
Was any resolution found? Did the reinstall work?
