My sister lives with me and never cleans her area. The toilet is black. There is junk everywhere. She is not a hoarder, but only cleans to perfection or not at all. Mostly not at all. What the heck is going on?

How to Live With a Sloppy Roommate

Living with a roommate can be a lot of fun, but there are bound to be personality clashes at some point. If you constantly find yourself wading through piles of clothes and sending stacks of dirty dishes tumbling, you may have a sloppy roommate. It can be tough living with a sloppy roommate, but here are some tips

Schedule a time to sit down and talk to your sloppy roommate. Speak with him as soon as you notice the mess getting out of hand. The longer you wait to have the conversation, the harder it will be. Make sure that you have enough time to have a good conversation about the issue.

Step 2
Talk to your roommate in a non-confrontational manner. Address your roommate directly about the sloppiness. Let them know how it makes you feel and how it is affecting your life. Be sure to focus on the problem, not on your roommate as a person.
Step 3
Suggest solutions on how your roommate can clean up her act. Tell her how much you would appreciate it if she picked up their clothes, put her dishes in the sink and so on.
Step 4
End the conversation with a pleasant tone and change the subject after you are sure he has gotten the message. Go on to something new only when you are sure they understand how much his sloppiness has been bothering you.
Step 5
Create a chore chart to divide chores if you notice that she is not making a big effort to clean up her act. Your roommate may need a little direction. A chore chart may help them understand exactly what she needs to be doing to keep things clean.
