Some web sites sole purpose is to obtain your ID so your assets can be stolen so the web site costs you dearly.

Virtually all web sites invite you to visit at no cost, and the vast majority are honest.  However, there are some net sites to be wary on entering (if not avoid completely):

Porn sites.  These sites will feed your computer malicious code: "trackbots," "spybots," "hackbots," "crackbots," "smackbots," and disabling viruses that require an extortionate fee to remove -- and will slip by virtually any anti-virus software.

Leftist political sites.  These sites are worse by an order of magnitude.  Expect all the prior abuse and at least these others:  "phreakbots," "travelers," and "trojans." 

Photo sites.  Downloadable photos (particularly risque' photos or screen savers) may contain multiple "bots" and render your hard drive inaccessible.

Spy sites.  Such as Spokeo(tm) are legitimate if you have a specific need to conduct background investigation on a person you suspect of unethical dealing, criminal misconduct, or concealment of material fact.  You must give these sites credit card numbers which they may bill multiple times without you knowing it or consenting.

Get rich quick schemes.  Nigerian scams abound and are of course only for the simpleminded.  Nigerian scams always involve the transfer of huge sums of money to your accounts and then you must disburse part of it back to others.  Unfortunately the checks these people send are worthless, they will ask you to transfer funds before their bogus check can be so much as verified.

The Internet is a jungle.  Walk carefully in it.
