Discuss Peter's answer to: Lincoln Discoveries

What are your thoughts on the recent Abraham Lincoln discoveries? National Museum of American History / AP

It doesn't change anything: not history; not our concepts or understanding of Lincoln. Why does this have any importance at all. Certainly the firing on Fort Sumter was never a secret attack. And the fact that an Irish watchmaker in DC was a supporter of the Federal government, even at a time of great sympathy for the southern states, is only relatively important. Probably only to his descendants who can best decide for themselves where their own sympathies would have lain. It is nice to have one more artifact fully explored, but that's the best one can say.
