Is it legal to collect unemployment compensation if you get a job right after getting fired?

It is illegal to continue collecting unemployment compensation when you have a job. Once caught you will have to pay it back and will most likely have trouble ever collecting again since this is fraud.

The idea behind unemployment benefits is to help you stay afloat when you are unemployed (for a qualifying reason) and in between jobs.  As you already took a job then you are not eligible for unemployment.  During this time of economic uncertainty be happy you found a job!
