I have an LCD. Sony Bravia. I'm quite happy with it. When I was researching what TV to get, this being my first flat screen, I noted that LCDs were less expensive than LEDs, and seemed to have a longer lifespan. I have absolutely no complaints with the Sony whatsoever.

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then that makes me a burning truck filled with TNT hurtling through a rocket fuel depot.

If I have the money I would go for a LED but I have already owned a 46'' Nikai NTV4602LCDFHDN5. LED has brighter bulbs that can make a color more crisp and vibrant. Go for the LED if you have the money.

I am neither especially clever nor especially gifted. I am only very, very curious.

LCD in Brief

LCD is Liquid Crystal Display, consisting of a thin liquid-crystal gel between two glass panels. Separated into pixels by a grid of wires, each pixel shifts 90 degrees to face one panel or the other. Which panel the pixel faces determines if light goes through and thus manipulates how the image appears.

LED in Brief

LEDs--Light Emitting Diodes--also use liquid crystal gel for the screen, but the main difference lies in how the display is lit. LCDs use a fluorescent lamp while LED screens use hundreds or thousands of the light diodes of its namesake, one per each pixel.

LCD Advantages

LCD's biggest advantage over LED is that as a more established piece of technology, LCD screens are on the whole cheaper. "PC World" reports that LEDs on average cost 20 percent more than an LCD TV of identical size and specs.

LED Advantages

LED TVs are a newer development than LCDs and as such are generally superior in performance. "PC World" compared LCD, LED and plasma screens in power efficiency, fast motion, color palette, length of viewing angle and contrast ratio. LED TVs were uniformly the winner.

Bottom Line

LCD and LED TVs are fine types of displays and the decision rests mostly on what the buyer is more interested in: LCDs are easier on the pocketbook, while LEDs offer premium performance.

LED is better because of its high quality picture graphics. Something you are overlooking that is HDMI port should be attached with TV. You should buy Google TV device with television because of its many benefits. With the help of Google TV device, you can watch movies, videos, play games including sensor based games. Google TV device support SD card expansion. I m using Google TV device last 11 months with no errors. I m sending a link, check it

Well led tvs are far better for power consumption.  If you have a 55 inch screen then you know what power consumption a lcd takes. But i saw last months more and more plasma tvs are on the market again.

LED's have been in use since the 1950's. Texas Instruments and Texas Material Labs did more to advance their use than anyone else. LED's both transmit and receive light, giving rise to Close-Coupled Devices and other technologies.
