If an appropriate oil filter wrench does not work, then gently drive a screwdriver thru the filter and turn it counterclockwise. Works like a charm.

Oil filter will not come off

The oil filter should come off with an oil filter wrench. Could be that some idiot in the shop has closed it with a wrench, the filter must be tightened by hand only.
