Greetings Yedda Family!!!!

I have an interview on Monday, and I'm asking for your help on some much needed advice.

first, let me tell you what I do know. I know there is no inappropriate dressing, a foul mouth, gum chewing, perfumed smell, asking about the pay, trashing my former employer, ( I have nothing bad to say about them anyway!) arriving late, kindly turning down a beverage, ( If offered ) no long fingernails, fidgeting, and probably tons more that I'm leaving out. But these are all common sense things anyway.

Now for what I don't know. Every interview that I have ever had, for some reason, after the interviewer asks me a question, my mind goes completely blank. Not good. It's like sometimes I just go into a fog, and I'm not even remembering the question. So my question to you is, how can I focus, I mean REALLY focus, and not go blank? I am a competent person, and I excel at what I do, I just want to be able to express myself like I know I can.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!!Smile And any advice will be GREATLY appreciated!!

Talk about the question in a non-committal fashion while you are organizing your thots. This will keep the question in your mind and avoid the dreaded dead air gap.

Interviewer: What do you think about Venezuela?

You: Vinnie Swailah. I haven't thot about Vinnie in years. When I last heard from him, he was selling cars in Joisey. I think with the attitudes that are held by the governing officials in Caracas and the environs, Venezuela could become more prominent in world affairs and alter the balance of power in the northern half of South America.

In this example, you have reminded yourself of the question and made a very non-committal response. If you would like an example which contains more serious content, then you will  need to manufacture a question and post it here. Just place it as an answer to your own question. I will WTQ. I do not promise to get back to you within eight hours. Neither I nor the world is perfect in every way.

Give me an example of a question that you would be asked to elicit the response that you describe.

pa's girl, just ignore Jay, he likes to play with people's minds. There is nothing wrong with yours only his. Sometimes he makes absolutely no sense at all. Take it with a grain of salt.

As to the answer to your question, all of us have been in that same situation at one time or another.

The best thing to do is to clear your mind of any clutter, and concentrate on what is being asked. Don't let your thoughts run ahead of you wondering what they may or may not be thinking. Concentrate on the question being asked, you know the routine, so plan ahead what you plan to answer to each question. Go over it in your head several times before the actual interview, so by the time you get there, the response is immediate and well thought out.

Don't worry about inconsequential things, like whether or not you may have a thread on your skirt, or your hair isn't as perfect as you wanted it to be. Instead concentrate on your qualifications and your confidence in your ability to do the job for which you are interviewing.

And most importantly, remember the interviewer is just doing their JOB, like any other job, like the job for which you are interviewing. Be confidant, self-assured, and don't be intimidated by the surroundings. You know you're good at what you do, you know you are intelligent, so focus on those aspects. Worry is the cause of most confusion, so don't worry, be yourself and let YOU shine through.

Good luck, I hope you get the job!

Hi Jay'

I totally forgot about this question. I smile now because I remember how very important this was to me. My question took me 4 hours to write. I just wanted Yedda to think that I was smart-without ever having to know the real reason. Well, all of Yedda knows now. I wish I could be really smart like you Jay. I DO still continue to try-I just wish sometimes that things would come a lot easier for me then they do, and I wish I could be like others in that sense. I do not always see things as others do, I'm not comprehending-sometimes I answer questions that I know I understand, but it turns out I didn't. It was even pointed out to me,-ugh. Someone else gave me this comment-"Wonder what your point might be Pa's girl. Do you think they are wrong in suggesting he get professional help? You don't think he needs it, when he says he never has found anyone and does not think he ever will...that sound healthy to you?

Did you think your efforts to discount the comments on Yedda, without explaining why, and your failure to offer him constructive suggestions is really negative and counterproductive for a poor guy like this seeking help and where we suggest he go get that help".

"Did you think he thought Yedda was all Psychiatrists or did you just want him to know you are not, and you are clueless about giving him any advice??"

Holy crap-that person is such a jerk-damn jerk just started to make me wilt and cry all over again-

There are questions that I answer because they are silly. Some are just asking for comical responses. And there are some that I just totally miss. One stands out. A woman asked about the price of breast augmentation. I told her to save up and get one done because that would be a good incentive to save for the other one. She didn't like my answer. She did not know the difference between an augmentation and a reconstruction. I felt very bad about being insensitive, but there was absolutely nothing in the question or her profile to indicate that she had breast cancer. If I recall, I apologized to her and then told her that she needed to learn how to ask questions better. There are times when my insensitivity dies hard.

Your friend,

Jay
