Jiri Everest Base Camp trek is famous trail (route of the Tenzing-Hilary Everest climb in 1953 and earlier expeditions) can now begin at the village of Shivalaya, due to a new road. This trail into the Solukhumbu is frequented by countless porters and pack animals, but few trekkers. The Sherpa people, formerly from Tibet, live chiefly in the Khumbu region, from Lukla upwards, and in the Solu region along the Dudh Kosi River below Lukla.Spring and Autumn are the best seasons, though Mountain Mart Trek-adventure team make it happen four season comfortably.

Everest trek via Jiri, the beginning eight days  trail passes through beautifully terraced farmlands, forests and classic middle-hill countryside to Namche Bazaar. It offers simple amenities and ample time to acclimatize while encountering the culture, customs and life style of these friendly and hospitable Hindu and Buddhist communities.

Everest region trekking begins at an altitude of 1800m and crosses many ridges which involve dropping twice to cross rivers at around 1500m to climbing the Lamjura La (3540m) and Trakshindu La (3080m) before arriving, well acclimatized, at Namche Bazaar for a rest day. Namche is the business hub of the region and gateway to the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo treks. Higher up, the vegetation becomes more stunted and eventually gives way to rock, ice and pure breathtaking glacial landscapes.

Everest view trek beyond Namche, the ‘up and down’ trail continues to rise as the night-time temperatures drop and you move deeper into the mountains. Beyond Tengboche (with its large monastery, rhododendrons and great scenery) and Pangboche, the villages become smaller – and the going tougher (slower) yet more dramatic. A second acclimatisation day is required at Dingboche. Walk slowly up to Lobuche, Gorak Shep and along the “tracks” to Base Camp (which is higher than the northern Base Camp near Rongbuk, in Tibet). Early morning views from Kala Patthar should be stupendous: including the peaks of Pumori, Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse, set amongst numerous other ranges. Retrace to Lukla to fly to civilization Kathmandu.
