It was the Romans who crucified him. Not the Jews.

The Pharisees ( council of elders and scribes ) signed off on it, because he was going around saying that he was the Mashiah. Even though he had done none of the things that the Mashiah was prophesied to do. As such, He, according to Biblical law, was guilty of blaspheme.
