What is it that is being leased or rented?

Unless you wanted to post a lot more information, then you will not get any advice better than what Oron has given you. You need to speak with your husband. Hopefully he will open up and explain. Any answer like "It is not right/our responsibility/safe" is totally unacceptable. An answer like "I am afraid that they will not pay us back/cost us money." or "I'm so cheap." would indicate that the discussion is on the right track.
