d.coates -- The US sent a Navy P-3 to take pictures and gather information in order to guide rescue efforts for both the US and other countries.

The American Coast Guard rescued many people and took them to hospitals to be cared for. Our soldiers were there while their families did without them.

The Airforce was involved in the way of bring supplies.  Not to mention that everywhere I turned, at the office, at the church, in the neighborhood there was a collection going on for the people of Haiti. Many more voluntered their services, doctors, nurses, etc. and again, leaving their families behind. 

I'm sure there were many other ways the US helped out.  The US always helps out, no matter the county.  It's more than I can say for other countries who would probably be glad that we are having a disaster going on!
