One of the best inventions has been the phone.  Family and friends learned how to communicate faster vs. waiting for the mail.  It was also a much faster way to call your doctor vs. just running to see him.

Today the phone (cell) is still great for communications, but we can't hide anymore!  Sometimes I can't help but wonder if we were better off without it.

David Palmer Jr. Thinks this answer is Helpful:

Samuel Morse brought us out of the semophore age, yet semophore transmitted vital information at the 10% gobbledygook rate.  Morse brought us the telegraph, with the same amount of intelligent message traffic at the 20% gobbeldygook rate.  Bell brought us to speaking unintelligently on the phone lines at a 70% gobbledygood rate.  Now we have the Internet at the 99.99% gobbledygook rate.

So, we get as much meaningful information by semophore as through the Internet, when we deduct the gobbledygook!
