How important is it to find out about the personality of a job applicant? Should the employer find out some things about the applicant's private life?
An employee's private life often affects job performance. A married man with children will generally be more responsible and settled rather than one who is heavily in debt, going through a divorce, has a practice of often changing jobs, etc.
A single parent who has no one to share responsibilities, or unmarried people who may not be settled. Of course generalizations are not always accurate but can serve as a guide.
It is not necessary to ask a bout that person's private life. What is the most important is to find how well that person fit on the job. So, you have ask him job interview question which is related to the qualifications of that job required. Say for example, What are your strengths and weaknesses?
