My son is 19 and needs health insurance what ...

My son is 19 and needs health insurance what insurance company do you recommend or does he qualify for medicare?

He is no longer in school, he attended a trade school and of course cannot find a job in his field. I need something affordable in case he gets sick.

Helena, have you checked your insurance? I received a notice recently that my health insurance now covers up to age 23(or 25--I threw the notice out since it didn't apply to me) even if the child is no longer in school. If it doesn't, he might still be able to get a reduced rate from your insurance company since you have insurance there. Good luck--I know this is a worry for you.

In your city there is a FREE CLINIC, take him there and he will get free check ups and free Doctor visits and free medication. If there is no Free Clinic in your City and your son does get hurt then take him to the ER and ask for a social worker to take his case. The social worker will put him on Medicaid. Medicaid is for those that dont have money to pay for doctor visits and meds.............Medicare is for those that have retired or those that are severly disabled. I wish you good luck, BLESSINGS

There are many options out there. While waiting on a job in his field, he can get a job at a place like Starbucks which has health insurance benefits. Or if the place he ends up at doesn't have benefits and he needs to buy health insurance outright, there are price/quote comparison sites that you can fill out a form and get free quotes from multiple providers to see what your options are.
