Is instant rice ok to give your dog?

Hello

Both of my boston terriers, boys, 13 yrs & 4 yrs have a bout of diarrhea. I didnt have regular rice only instant, so I boiled a turkey burger made the rice and mixed it together.

The older dog is fine, but the younger one vomited everything up the next day. This happened before. I thought maybe it was the turkey but now I am thinking its because the rice was instant.

In the past, if they needed it, I always made them 'regular' rice.

Did I do something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

thank you

I would stay away from using turkey for this mixture. Some dogs can not tolerate turkey at all and it simply makes matters worse.

We have always used  boiled boneless/skinless chicken breast along with the long cooking rice.  The chicken is very bland which will give his stomach a rest, but still offer the nutrients your dog needs. The rice works as a firming agent.  Feed this mixture (equal parts of chicken and rice) in the amount that your dog normally eats.

Feed this for 3 days and on the fourth day begin incorporating a small bit of the normal dog food and work up from there.

You can also give canned PLAIN pumpkin to help with the runs. it is very high fiber and is a natural remedy. For smaller dogs start with a teaspoon 2 times a day for 2 days. Most dogs absolutely love it.  Cooked sweet potato also has the same benefit.  I normally buy a can pf pumpkin and freeze it in ice cube trays and then store in freezer bags. That way it is always on hand in case of emergencies.

Good luck !

Thank you so much for your response. I feel terrible because the little guy has been 'moping' around all day. He is not even eating his cookies. I was just trying to help him and I made him sick.

I did try the pumpkin by itself and they didnt like it. I mixed it with their kibble and hand fed it to them and they ate it like that.

But I thought I would try the rice thing because it worked before except I only had the turkey and thought it would be ok.

Thanks again for your response. I hope he feels better soon.
