I heard the expression "green horses" but I don't know what it means.

Is there some sport where they actually color horses green?

I really hope not...

This metaphor relates to the idea that a young tree is often called a green sapling. Young horses in training are called “green”. Whereas experienced horses are often referred to as “made”.

Horses really aren't the color green, it just means they either have little to no training or they are not broke or never been ridden. right now i have a 3 yr old horse she is considered Green. The rider can also be called green if he or she is inexperienced. Hopefully you understand.

Don't worry! Only nature decides the color of a horse. Its just a phrase. The "green saplings" is a perfect anaology. Just as many fruit are considered "green" when they're not ripe yet, just so a horse which is not considered trained is refered to as "green."

Green broke means little experience undersaddle. Not for someone new to horses.

The term "green" has nothing to do with with a horse's coloring. It is used to describe experience in training. Someone might say, "Oh, you don't want him, he's green." Typically it is used to describe young horses. They might be broke (able to be ridden) but that does NOT mean that they are an old trail horse! Green horses should be trained by a professional horseman until they are ready to be sold to an experienced rider. Just as a warning: If you are not a professional, or being trained by one, please do not attempt to ride, or jump!, a green horse! With my lil' green-bean, I usually end up eating dirt before an extended trot! But great question!

I have been said I am greenhorn in the english language and i can be greenthumb onday . I know that some people will be green-eyed monsters when i cultivate my language skills. If i take the green-light of expressing the real meaning of a green-horse in this article, here it goes: A green-horse is a horse that has not yet been trained or has just begun training.
