Talk to your Vet.  It is basically the same as a human.  They go in and take out the Uterus and sometimes the ovaries.  Hope this helps

It depends whether you are looking at removing the ovaries or a full hysterectomy. In both cases it is major / expensive surgery. If you are just doing it for your own convenience, please don't do it. The easiest way is entry through the vagina, however few animal surgery centers are set up for this (experience, etc.). Side entry is done under tranquilizer and anesthetic with a lengthier recovery. Abdominal entry will probably include a couple of weeks at the surgery center, lengthy stall confinement (30 days), and an about 10 to 20% chance you lose your mare.

A full hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) takes longer and is higher risk. (I happened to research this because I may have to subject my mare to this due to an chronic infection of the uterus.)

That’s a little puzzling. But how did you end up going through with the procedure not knowing about your doctor’s expertise? It is important that you know about your surgeon’s skills before agreeing to any procedure, and in this case an invasive one. http://www.vaginalmeshlawsuit.com/pelvic-organ ...
