The Sony Hi 8 can be hooked up by using analog RCA jacks or with the Infrared system with the RCA jacks.
I have the one with the X-Ray effect that will run with the night vision and day light at the same time. The camera was purchased before a technician at Sony discovered the X-Ray effect and the company rewired the camera. You need the special red lense to see the effect . I managed to buy two of the special red lenses at a camera store. It's been a while since I used the camera an I forget why these red lenses are different then other red lenses.
The X-Ray effect does work the light passes thru cloth an illuminates what is behind it. Put a T-shirt over a fan an you can see the wire cage like a skeleton.
You can add one of those long telescoping lenses and magify the video scenes from hundreds of feet away. I can make a head look like it's close up from about a thousand feet pretty good right?
You can add individual Infrared lights to inhance the one that comes installed if you can find them at a store. Sony closed a lot of stores so good luck trying to buy the extra Infrared lights.
