Is an honorarium taxable ?

I received smamll honorariums in appreciation for appearing at various non-profit events that were sponsored by one organization. The honorariums ranged from $25 to $300. I received nothing for expenses or my time.
The organization said they had to issue a 1099misc because it totaled over $600 for 2008.   Is the money taxable?

Yes, if the honorariums would not have been paid to you "but for" your appearance at the event.  That is, if they were paid to you because of or inconsideration of your appearance and they total over $600, they are taxable.   But....since you weren't reimbursed for expenses, you may be able to offset a good portion of this income by including your unreimbursed expenses in your deductions.
