I tend to prefer my speakers on the largish size, but that's only a personal preference. Most people would likely use my rear speakers for their front speakers in a surround sound set up. Size doesn't really matter so much, however. What counts is quality. Those same rear speakers also happen to be $400 a pair JBL speakers. My center speakers is also a JBL. Those are high quality full range speakers in the mid range of speakers. The next range up you're looking at $1000 to 12,000 a pair. My main speakers are very large Jensons that I'm very fond of. Get the best quality you can afford. Make sure they all function at the same resistance and make sure they're all in phase. And if your surround sound receiver has the feature, balance the speakers to your room and personal preferences.
