I was thinking of installing an aquarium in my home after visiting one in our city. Is it worth all the work involved to ensure it is balanced and clean?

Hi,
Yes it is worth.  No doubt.  Go 4 it.  It won't take much of you time (only several minutes a day) and it's great fun.   With a nice aquarium, set in the proper place (away from direct sun) and provided with a good filter + air supply.
However you must be aware of the following:
1.  Fish dealers add all kind of hormons to make the
fish look nice.  They even add chemicals to get
nice colours (Phosphorous) to glow at night.
You pay a lot and within a couple of weeks the
colours fade..... or the fish die.....
2.  So best thing to do is meet people who grow
fish and swop fishes with them.  It's not the money
    it's a matter of dissapointment.
3.  You'll have to learn a lot (mostly by trail & error).
4.  It bonds you a bit to the house.... You go for a 2
weeks trip who is going to feed them ?
5.  You'll have to choose carefully the fishes.
If you need some private advice, feel free to send me an e-mail and I'll be glad to do it (free of charge,  obviousely).
Have a nice weekend,

Love is the battery of life....
